The Board of Owners and the Supervisory Board of Helaba have appointed Frank Nickel (58) as a member of the Board of Managing Directors. The decision is still subject to approval by the national and European banking supervisory authorities.
It is envisaged that Frank Nickel will succeed Klaus-Jörg Mulfinger, who will leave the Board of Managing Directors on 31 December 2018 for health reasons and by mutual agreement with Helaba (see Helaba press release of 22 June 2018). After approval by the supervisory authorities, Nickel is expected to assume responsibility for Sparkassen Lending and S-Group Services, Sparkassen Support Nord und South and Landesbausparkasse (LBS) Hessen-Thüringen in the Board of Managing Directors.
Nickel has been Chairman of the Management Board of Sparkasse Werra-Meißner since 1999. After training as a savings bank clerk, he worked for Sparkasse Münden until 1995 - most recently as head of the credit division. Nickel then moved to Helaba, where he headed the Kassel branch until 1998 and was responsible for corporate customer business at the Kassel location. Since 2010, Nickel has been a member of Helaba’s Supervisory Board and Audit Committee and has been Chairman of Helaba’s Credit Risk Committee.
Gerhard Grandke, Managing President of the Savings Banks and Giro Association Hesse-Thuringia and Chairman of Helaba's Supervisory Board, is delighted with the new appoint-ment to the Board of Managing Directors: “As an experienced chief executive of a savings bank, Frank Nickel is the guarantee that Helaba's strong focus on the savings banks is maintained and that its successful course is further expanded.”
